This fascinating exhibition at The Morgan Library explores the challenging creation of Wagner's epic and the staging of its 1876 premier in Bayreuth, and its 1889 debut at the Metropolitan Opera House. The show includes rare music manuscripts, photographs, and historical artifacts. I especially found fascinating the hot-off-the-press reviews from the Herald Tribune from their reporting live at Bayreuth covering each of the four operas (making up the Ring) consecutively. Also, you certainly come away with the feeling how important King Ludwig of Munich was in making this all come about. There is also a continuous running video with the glorious voices and music. A number of the items have never before been on public display. a Highly recommend for the inner Wagnarian in you.
